Dear Brethren,
MEDITATION
2 In hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, 3 but
has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me
according to the commandment of God our Saviour; Titus 1:2-3
OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION
1. Our hope in God
a) Our hope is of eternal life
b) Our hope is in God
i) This hope is secure
ii) Our God cannot lie
iii) This was a promise given by God even before time began
2. The Manifestation of this Hope
a) It was manifested in His word
b) It is manifested through preaching
3. Commitment to Paul
a) Paul saw the ministry of preaching/ teaching God’s word as something
committed to him
b) Thus, he sought to be faithful to the Lord in his life and ministry
APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY
1. The Doctrine of Hope
a) This ought to be well-understood
b) Hope is “the twin” of faith
c) The preaching of the word must bring forth a sense of hope
2. The origin of the doctrine of Hope
a) It was already existing before man was created
b) It is better understood only when the Word of God is proclaimed
3. The Ministry of Preaching and Teaching
a) All preaching and teaching must be related to the Word of God
b) Our task is to realise that this ministry is committed to us by the Lord!
OUR CHALLENGE
1. To examine our sense of understanding of the ministry of preaching/ teaching
a) Do we see this ministry as something entrusted to us by God Himself?
b) We must seek to live up to this sense of commitment!
2. Reject a low view of preaching and teaching
a) Some have a very low view of preaching
b) They do not bother to prepare well
3. Cultivate a high view of preaching and teaching
a) We have a high calling
b) We must preach
i) The Word of God
ii) Hope of eternal life
4. Cultivate a strong regard for God
a) As a God to be revered
b) As a wonderful God who has given us great and glorious promises
