Dear Brethren,
MEDITATION
1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.
2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
Ephesians 5:1-2
OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION
1. Be imitators of God
a) The attributes of God are many
b) The Fruit of the Spirit are things we must seek to cultivate
c) The different aspects of the Fruit of the Spirit will reflect God’s attributes
d) This is how we may “imitate God”
2. Review the 9 Fruit of the Spirit
a) Love
b) Joy
c) Peace
d) Long-suffering
e) Kindness
f) Goodness
g) Faithfulness
h) Gentleness
i) Self-control
3. If we cultivate these things, we will be “imitating God”
4. What is our Motivation?
a) Because we are “dear children”
b) The word “dear” means “Beloved”
c) It is natural and right that children want to follow their father
5. A special Focus:
a) To walk in love
b) Bearing in mind the example of the Lord Jesus Christ
c) His Kind of love is the greatest example of true love
i) It was a sacrificial love
ii) His giving of Himself totally to die for highlights the greatness of His love
APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY
1. Let us be greatly challenged
a) To be imitators of God
b) To follow the example of our Saviour
2. Our Ministry for the Lord
a) It must be impacted by God’s love
b) Only then can we hope to impact lives
c) Let us determine to serve meaningfully and fruitfully
d) Let us never be contented just to serve
e) May the Word of God move us mightily!
