Dear Brethren,
MEDITATION
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
Colossians 1:15-16
OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION
- He (Jesus Christ) is the image of the invisible God
a. The word “image” means
i. Likeness
ii. Statue
iii. Representation
b. Jesus Christ represents God
i. In being
ii. In character
c. He is the God in flesh
- He is the firstborn over all creation
a. The word “firstborn” refers to
i. The supremacy of the Lord Jesus over all the creations of God
ii. The Lord Jesus’ being the firstbegotten Son of God
iii. We who believe in Christ Jesus too are begotten by God (1 John 5:1)
- For by Him all things were created…
a. Why is Jesus Christ the firstborn over all creation?
b. Because
i. He is the One by whom all things were created
ii. All things were created through Him and for Him
APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY
- Let us appreciate the Lord Jesus for who He really is
- Let us be committed to promoting this knowledge of the Lord Jesus
