PASTORAL LETTER 3 October 2022
Dear Brethren,
MEDITATION
In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead
Colossians 2:11-12
OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION
In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands…
1. There are two kinds of circumcision
a. One made with hands, and the other made without hands
b. We who are in Christ are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands
i. This is the putting off (cancelling of) of the body of the sins of the flesh
ii. This is effectuated by the circumcision of Christ in His flesh
2. We who are in Christ were circumcised when He (Christ) was literally circumcised!
Buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith…
1. The baptism administered by the Lord Jesus is
a. Spiritual in nature
b. Eternal in significance
2. It takes faith in the working of God to make sense of baptism theologically
a. We were buried with Christ in baptism
b. We were raised with Christ in baptism
c. This is so simply because of the working (energy) of God, who raised Christ from the dead
3. We who are baptized by the Lord Jesus were buried and raised with Him when He was actually buried and raised from the dead!
APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY
1. Let us appreciate what the Lord Jesus had gone through in His flesh for our own good
2. Let us not take for granted the theological meaning of the Lord’s physical circumcision, burial and resurrection from the dead
Prayerfully
