As the Scriptures say…(29)
The Holy Spirit
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you
(John 14:25-26)
The Holy Spirit helps us along the way as we follow and serve the Lord. There is a special-particular role that the Holy Spirit plays, which is enabling us to walk right and well.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit…
- The Holy Spirit as a person is introduced as another Helper (John 14:16)
- He is “another” Helper
- He is not different from Jesus
- He is exactly like Jesus God’s Son
- He therefore is the third Person of the Trinity
- He is “another” Helper
- The Holy Spirit as the Helper means
- He is the Encourager and Exhorter
- He is the One sent to walk alongside us to see us through in life
- The Holy Spirit will come “in my name”
- He will take the place of Jesus, glorifying Jesus Christ
- He will do all the works of Jesus, confirming the words of Jesus Christ
He will teach you all things…
- The Holy Spirit is also the source of all truth (John 14:17)
- He will teach us all things
- “All things” does not exclude anything we should learn ( 1Cor.2:10-16)
- Truly, the Spirit is the only teacher we would ever need (1John 2:27)
- The Holy Spirit is our supreme Teacher like Jesus
Bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you
- One of the things the Holy Spirit does is to help us remember the words of Jesus
- In a more theological application, the Holy Spirit as our Helper-Teacher will cause us to remember the teachings of the Scripture
- He will give us ‘what Jesus has said to us’ in the hour
- He will enable us make full use of the Scriptures for faith and life
The challenge however is that we must make sure that we have heard Jesus. Let us treasure the Word of God in our hearts (Ps.119:11). Let us keep the words of Jesus richly in our hearts (Col.3:16). May the Lord grant us grace to do our parts as we sit at the feet of the Holy Spirit!
